UKRI FLF PostDoc: Legged Robot Cognitive Navigation in Nature

Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of legged robot cognition in natural environments? We are seeking a motivated PostDoc to join our FLF RoboHike fellowship, “Autonomous Quadrupedal Robot Navigation and Hiking in Challenging Rough Terrains”. Learn more about the project here.
The purpose of this role is to develop learning-based methods that enable legged robots to navigate challenging environments for inspection and intervention. Applications include vineyard mapping, mine exploration, and forestry.
🔍 What We’re Looking For
- Strong expertise/PhD in a relevant research field – e.g., legged robot navigation/cognition, legged robot learning.
- Evidence of expertise with real robotic platforms.
- Excellent publication record with respect to the current career level.
- Independent research and innovation potential.
📋 Responsibilities
- Conduct world-leading research on legged robot navigation.
- Develop high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Present research at national and international conferences.
- Contribute to dynamic research groups and wider affiliated Centres and Institutes.
- Assist in the supervision of students and development of learning materials.
- Participate in departmental seminars and interdisciplinary collaborations.

About Us

The Robot Perception and Learning (RPL) lab, led by Prof. Dimitrios Kanoulas, develops planning and perception methods for legged robots navigating in challenging and uncertain natural environments.
